"Too Black"

This is one of my most favorite poems....

"Too Black"
By Cynthia L. Moore
THEY TAKE MY KINDNESS FOR WEAKNESS.
THEY TAKE MY SILENCE FOR SPEECHLESS.
THEY CONSIDER MY UNIQUENESS STRANGE.
THEY CALL MY LANGUAGE SLANG.
THEY SEE MY CONFIDENCE AS CONCEIT.
THEY SEE MY MISTAKE AS DEFEAT.
THEY CONSIDER MY SUCCESS ACCIDENTAL.
THEY MINIMIZE MY INTELLIGENCE TO POTENTIAL.
MY QUESTIONS MEAN I AM UNAWARE.
MY ADVANCEMENT IS SOMEHOW UNFAIR.
ANY PRAISE IS PREFERENTIAL TREATMENT
TO VOICE CONCERN IS DISCONTENTMENT.
IF I STAND UP FOR MYSELF, I AM TOO DEFENSIVE.
IF I DONTTRUST THEM, I AM TOO APPREHENSIVE.
I AM DEFIANT IF I SEPARATE.
I AM FAKE IF I ASSIMILATE.
MY CHARACTER IS CONSTANTLY UNDER ATTACK.
PRIDE FOR MY RACE MAKES ME "TOO BLACK!"

Hi girl, My cousin sent me that comparison picture. It's going all around the Internet. How sad that we had our most powerful Female (Condaleesa) stand up in front of cameras and proclaim her blackness(a good thing) and her southern roots (also a good thing) but yet deny the obvious racism in the slow response!!! I mean its like calling 911 in the middle of a black neighborhood in 1975. It was a joke then and it still is today! I tell you one thing though. I have 3 new Heros! I love Mayor Nagin of New Orleans for throwing caution to the wind and telling everyone in the world what was going on down there, Lt. General Honore (the Ragin Cajun) for going down there and kicking ass and taking names, and that Stand up man who heads the police force in New Orleans, I dont know his name, for being a proud black man, raising a family of 4 children and one on the way, but taking his responsibility for his city seriously and BEING THERE!! Black men get so much negative press for not being there. HOW GREAT Is it that HE STAYED AND IS STILL THERE And singing praises of all the MEN and WOMEN who stayed. I love it! God works in mysterious ways his wonders to perform. Maybe one great thing that has come out of this catastrophe is that the WORLD knows what kind of people, what kind of intellect, what kind of dedication, WE, the african decendants of slaves in America, have in OUR D.N.A!!! I love my people!!!
