The Teachers Conundrum

Why is it that when I tell anyone that I'm a teacher their eyes get wide, there lips pull on both sides and they say something like:

"Oooh.. Good luck!" or "Wow!"

Don't they realize that this is my profession? Do they not realize that doing that sets me up to be defensive? What if I went to your house and asked you if you were a parent and when you said yes I did the same?

I mean, they want good teachers but yet they make these remarks as if we don't know its a difficult job. Be supportive without it seeming like I need the support.

What bothers me even more, is that when asked by the teachers in my school, what I'm going to be teaching and I say Special Ed, they do the saaaaame thing!

This is my comeback phrase to all those that do this to me.

I'm a teacher
I'm excited about being a teacher
I love being a teacher

Spel

That's great. What grade levels do your parents teach?
How many years have they been teaching?

Thanks for the positive support.

Hey Eb!

I agree... they should be giving me a damn ovation. I'm a Diva and took on this role to show the world that our kids can achieve when there's ppl out there that love and care.

Hey Jaqueline!

Glad to know you agree with me and others about how important teaching is. There are ppl out there that would say things like "There's so many other options, why teaching?"

--Beacause I wanna be a nation builder-- (stealing you words. LOL I love it!)

Thanks!

You tell 'em JB! I like that attitude. Yes, you can get strange responses from fellow teachers. It's something. I'm looking forward to reading your future post as the school year progresses. *Big Hug* Go head, Teach!

Hey Veronica!

Thanks for the support and the recognition.

Teaching is NOT easy, especially when you have a special ed classroom with 2nd and 3rd graders on various levels.

Funny thing is, all though I'm exhausted as I type this message, I'm looking foward to tomorrow.

Hey Brother Stephen!

Everyone is calling me "TEACH" these days, even you, I see.

You wouldn't believe how catty some of these teachers can be.
